In this article, we will explore the native way and the Stripe alternative.

1. Native subscriptions, using Webflow Ecommerce and Memberships

To enable subscriptions on Webflow:

  • Open the Webflow designer interface
  • Click on ecommerce and follow the setup guide
  • Open the subscription tab inside ecommerce.
  • Enable memberships

Once enabled, it’s time to set it up. You should configure it according to your business model. In our case, I will set up a dummy subscription for our Webflow Development business.

First, I will go to e-commerce to add a new subscription product.

Depending on your business model, you can create a subscription for a physical product, a digital product, a service, or even a membership. In my case, I’ve created it for a service.

To turn a product into a subscription, select subscription in the billing method input. You can configure the billing period to daily, weekly, monthly, or annually. You can even add variations if you have different packages for the same product.

If you want to create a membership subscription, select membership in the product type when creating a product.

Then, at billing, make it a subscription.

Configure the price and compare-at price.

If you have multiple packages, such as standard, premium, and business, you can add a new variant, call it type and give it those names.

If you offer a membership subscription, head over to the memberships tab to create access groups.

You can link a membership with a product by selecting paid access at group type and picking the product or products associated with that membership.

Once created, you are ready to design and launch your subscriptions. Don’t forget to link your Stripe account and configure your business details before launching the website.

2. Webflow subscriptions using Stripe

If the native option with Webflow Ecommerce & Memberships is not the best option, you can integrate a third-party tool that offers recurring billing options such as Stripe, PayPal, or Memberstack. Setting these up requires creating an account with your chosen payment platform, setting up the appropriate recurring payment options, and then integrating the gateway into your Webflow site.

We usually go with Stripe as it allows for the most amount of customization. It offers both no-code and custom-code options, which means that we can use it even without knowing how to code. Here is how.

  • Head over to stripe.com and create an account
  • Enable test mode to safely create and test subscriptions
  • In the products tab, click on the add product button
  • Add your product info
  • In the price information section, make sure you select recurring, below the price.
  • Save the product
  • Generate a payment link
  • Add the link to Webflow. You can add it on a button.
  • Once you are done, transfer your products from development mode to production.

If you want to create 3 subscriptions (e.g. standard, premium, business), you would need to create 3 separate products. Once created, add the links to the corresponding subscribe button on your Webflow website.
